Although it is NOT a book club edition (there isno blindstamp on the back cover, among other indications), the dust jacket has the BOMC line in green on the BACK flap and the 20497 notation (which is the middle section of the SBN, as it was then called) on the back panel.

The book is tightly bound although the singatures are somewhat out of alignment and have minor shelf soil. There is a mild bump to the top right corner of the front cover and the yellow coloring at the top of the book block has a faded area. The book appears to have been read with the jacket removed as the black cloth appears somewhat worn, the gold stamping on the front cover and spine is faded and the cloth at the foot of the spine is creased. The front flyleaf has the bookplate of the previous owner. A copy of the second printing (so stated) of the first edition in an unclipped dustjacket.
